Opera at Habitat Series

Rossiniís La Cenerentola (Italian /English-subtitled/150mins) Sunit Tandon introduces a film by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle of his own classic production for the La Scala Opera House of Milan of Rossiniís sparkling take on the Cinderella story. Beware: there are some surprises in this version. The wicked parent is a step-father and not a step-mother, there is no fairy godmother (replaced by a wise philosopher) and the glass slipper is here a bracelet. But Rossiniís delightfully ebullient and tuneful music makes this the most memorable operatic version of the classic fairy tale
