The book traces the birth of a nation through the protagonist Rudra, a questioning and determined undergraduate who hallucinates and goes back into time to question the deposed Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar in miserable exile in Myanmar by the British after Khooni Darwaza and the uprising of 1857.
